It has long been obvious that the population in Germany is getting older and older each year. According to various predictions, the number of pensioners is expected to rise from 18 to approx. 24 million by 2040. Subsequently this also entails a rethinking of the real estate market, though in practice one sees only a few projects that meet the new requirements. According to the social association VdK, only 2 % of the apartments are "age-appropriate", while this only implies that these apartments have been built barrier-free.
